Vfx

Vfx, or visual effects, are special effects applied to a live-action video. People typically use this abbreviation while discussing blockbuster movies, which are laden with vfx, such as CGI characters and graphics.

However, even amateur filmmakers can add vfx to their videos. For example, a high schooler may add a text overlay to live shots from a movie they're making for class, stating the movie's title and cast. This simple addition is a form of vfx.

People also sometimes use vfx outside the context of movies, to discuss visual effects applied in other mediums. Video game developers and players, for example, often refer to visual effects that appear in games as vfx.
