Stoked

What does stoked mean?

Excited

Stoked is a term people use when they are excited about something, whether it be a fun gathering, the premiere of a TV show, or the perfect set of surfing waves. While extreme athletes, such as skateboarders, snowboarders, and surfers, most often use "stoked," anybody may use it.

For example, if you are excited about a get-together with your crush, your friend may say, "Wow, you are really juiced for this date!" Or, you may be excited about your Super Bowl party and post a picture of your food with the caption, "So juiced for the big game today. It's gonna be great!"

Origin of stoked

The slang term "stoked" dates back to 1950s California surf culture. It comes from the literal meaning of "stoking" as "stirring up a fire or furnace" but instead applies to the stirring of excitement or energy in a person.

Example

I'm totally stoked for the movie this weekend!
