Emu

While an emu is a type of bird, it may also be short for "emulator." For example, computer professionals and video game enthusiasts may use "emu" to refer to game, software, and SDK emulators.

People often use game emus to play games from retro systems, such as Nintendo (NES), Sega Genesis, and PlayStation. In these cases, they typically use an emu on their computer to load a game saved as a file.

Other emus include a software emu that runs an operating system (e.g., Windows on a Mac) and an SDK emu (e.g., testing a development project on an emulated device). Additionally, forensic emus emulate smartphones to capture evidence of crimes, and security research emus emulate devices to find security flaws.
