A term that is synonymous with joking around or being silly.

The term is derived from what clowns are supposed to do, be goofy and make you laugh, instead of the creepy clowns that torment your dreams. It's often utilized by an authority figure telling his subordinates to stop goofing off. Also used when a person is making fun of another person, "Ahmad was clowning on David last night."
