Where does BBM come from?
Mattel was established in 1945 and became one of the largest toy manufacturers with various popular brands and products, such as Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fisher-Price, American Girl, and Thomas & Friends. The "brains by Mattel" phrase grew in popularity in the 1990s and the "BBM" acronym became shorthand for the phrase as Internet lingo and texting grew in the late-1990s and 2000s.
Who uses BBM?
Millennial adults and older are the primary users of the acronym. They may text it or post it online to describe stupid behavior. They may also use the longer acronym BBFBBM, which means "body by Fisher, brains by Mattel," to make fun of attractive people that are stupid.
